Therapeutic Riding

At Hearts & Horses, therapeutic riding is at the heart of what we do. Our program is thoughtfully designed for individuals with physical, emotional, cognitive, and developmental challenges, using the unique movement and presence of the horse to support growth in ways that traditional therapies simply cannot replicate.

Whether a rider is building physical strength, emotional regulation, confidence, or independence, therapeutic riding meets them exactly where they are!

Why Therapeutic Riding Works

Horses offer something truly special: rhythmic movement, honest feedback, and a calm, non-judgmental presence. When a rider sits on a walking horse, their body naturally mirrors the horse’s movement—engaging muscles, improving balance, and stimulating the nervous system in a way that supports coordination and strength. At the same time, the emotional connection formed with the horse creates a powerful sense of trust, safety, and motivation.

Therapeutic riding can support:

  • Improved balance, posture, muscle tone, and core strength

  • Increased range of motion and coordination

  • Enhanced focus, attention, and sensory integration

  • Greater confidence, self-awareness, and emotional regulation

  • A sense of empowerment and independence

For many riders, the barn becomes a place where challenges feel manageable and successes feel deeply meaningful.

What makes our program special is the combination of skilled instruction, exceptional horses, and a truly supportive barn community. Riders are celebrated for who they are, progress is honored at every level, and each session is an opportunity to build strength, confidence, and joy.

The Hearts & Horses difference is connection! Where horses, people, and community come together to create confidence, healing, and lifelong belonging.
